Google Advertising Fundamentals Exam

As part of the Google Advertising Professionals program, you are required to take the “Google Advertising Fundamentals Exam” every 18 months.

PPCNI.com owner Jordan McClements retook the exam today, with a test score of 95% (required score 85%), and maintains his status as a, ‘Adwords Qualified Individual’ or ‘Qualified Google Advertising Professional’…

For anyone that is thinking about retaking this exam again soon, my advice is that it is not too difficult if you are managing accounts on a day to day basis, but it *is* worth spending an hour or so going through the ‘AdWords Learning Center’ to refresh your memory on some of the stuff that Google want you to regurgitate verbatim….

If anyone has any other questions or comments about this exam / professional status, please leave a comment on this blog post..

Thanks!

*Update* – 6th April 2010 – I have just had another look at my ‘Google Advertising Professionals Company – Company Summary’ page, and it is now saying that my exam does not expire until January 2012!  This contradicts the official Google advice on the subject that I read fairly recently…  So, until they change their mind again, it looks like the Google Advertising Fundamentals exam is valid for 2 years!

  1. Just a question, please: how many questions are related to the Google Adwords interface? Since I’m used to manage Adwords campaigns through a bid management tool, I’m not very familiar with the new interface..
    Thanks

  2. Jordan says:

There were actually very few questions on the test I did related to the new web interface (in fact none that I cam remember off the top of my head) and only one related to the MCC web interface….

The learning center is definately worth a look over if your already an account manager and familiar with AdWords, although they have taken the practice quiz questions out of the learning center now. If you want to practice mock exam questions for the exam go to http://www.iPassExam.com – it is a bit embarrasing to fail the exam, if your meant to be the expert >-|

The exam syllabus for the fundamentals exam is as follows:

    Introduction to AdWords
    AdWords Account and Campaign Basics
    AdWords Ad Formats
    AdWords Targeting and Placements
    AdWords Bidding and Budgeting
    Policies and Ad Quality Topics
    Optimizing Performance
    Selling and Representing AdWords

… and can be found at the learning center.

For those old timers that have taken the previous GAP exam and are going to sit the new “Fundamentals” exam it’s worth noting that the “Fundamentals” exam is slightly longer, with 120 questions and a time limit of 120 minutes. A bit more time to ponder the more tricky questions!

    Hi Jordan,

I have passed the Google Advertising Fundamental Exam with 95% on 2 April ’10. My MCC also reflects the required spent, but I haven’t got the Adwords Qualified Individual Logo as yet. Can you please let me know how can I get it.

  8. Jordan says:

    Salim,
You should have an ‘Advertising professionals’ page that you login to at:

    https://adwords.google.com/professionals

On you ‘Company Summary’ page, there should be links to download the qualified individual logo…

If you can’t get this then send an email to AdWords support and ask them what is going on.

  17. I am glad that I don’t have to take the Adwords Fundamentals exam again for two years. I just wrote it and passed. How long do I have before I have to take the other exam in order to be certified?

  18. Jordan says:

    Well done.

As I understand it (last time I looked) – you only need to pass one of the other advanced exams within 2 years to gain ‘qualified individual’ status.

If you manage an ad spend of $10,000 or more in a 90 day period, then you are also eligible for ‘qualified partner’ status.

    Nice and informative.

  20. Ben says:

    Very helpful, thanks

  21. Veerender says:

    Thanks for the information..

I have managed Above $25000 in last and still managing.. how do i get “qualified partner”

before giving fundamental exam or after giving..

  22. Jordan says:

You need to have the fundamentals exam and *one* other exam as well *and* be managing a spend of more than $10,000 in a 90 day period (all three at the same time).
